Help United Way "Close the Gap"!

As the end of its 2018-2019 annual campaign fast approaches, United Way of Indian River County is working to ensure community prosperity in what it is calling the “Close the Gap” Campaign. This initiative is a community wide effort set in place to help the organization meet their campaign goal of $2,970,000 by June 30.

United Way officials are asking area residents to help raise the final $70,000 in the next month to ensure programs benefiting children, families, and seniors continue at the current level without interruption.

Michael Kint, CEO of the United Way of Indian River County, says the funding gap could potentially leave people without services that provide for basic needs, financial stability, health services, and education.

“Bless this community for the generosity it has shown to get us to $2.9 million. That is amazing and we are humbled by your commitment to your neighbors. However, in order for us to maintain important services at our current level, we have to meet our goal,” Kint said. “We’re asking others in our community to step forward and help us close that gap and make an investment in our county’s future.”

Angela Davis Green, Executive Director of the Economic Opportunities Council of Indian River County, said their early learning program funded by United Way helps ensure local preschool students are equipped to enter kindergarten. The program helps identify areas where children need particular skill building and helps to engage the entire family in a child’s education.

United Way of Indian River County board chair, Jeff Smith, added, “The programs supported by United Way have proven effective in meeting community needs and upholding high governance and fiscal measures.”

United Way wants to thank the thousands of Indian River County residents who have already contributed to the campaign, and hopes to encourage those who haven’t to give consideration to making a donation by June 30.

United Way currently funds 43 local programs in the areas of health, education, and financial stability.
