Letter to the Editor- Help United Way Close the Gap

Dear Indian River County residents,

I am proud to live in a community where there are so many giving and caring people. The people that you can count on and the people that support one another.

Moreover, I am proud to serve our community through an organization that is dedicated to improving the lives of our residents- United Way of Indian River County.

Most people believe they know United Way. What they don’t realize is that United Way has evolved over the years to be more responsive to the needs of our community. I’ve volunteered with our United Way for 24 years in a variety of roles, and have found it to be a community organization that  evokes positive change because it focuses on improving everyone’s quality of life.

The 2018-19 United Way of Indian River County campaign is concluding soon- June 30th to be exact. This year, United Way and its network of volunteers and corporate partners are working extremely hard to raise $2,970,000 to support important programs and services throughout our county.

In order to meet this goal, we need your help.

We are currently at 97% of our total $2,970,000 fundraising goal- just $70,000 short of being able to maintain level funding for the very deserving and thoroughly vetted community organizations which United Way supports. $70,000 may seem like a small amount in comparison to the total, but that money is critical for local organizations. These organizations provide essential services that in some cases fill the gaps where other services do not; Services that benefit our community as a whole. A donation to United Way helps ensure that these gaps do not exist. It helps ensure that children have opportunities and support available to them so they can reach their full potential. It helps provide crisis management services for families and individuals who struggle to make ends meet. It provides life-changing counseling to those who have struggled with substance abuse and mental health issues.

If you have not yet donated to United Way’s campaign, please consider it. Your donation helps to make the community that I love, the community that we love, a better place for all of its residents. Donations can be mailed to United Way of Indian River County at P.O. Box 1960, Vero Beach, FL 32961. Donations can also be made online at www.UnitedWayIRC.org/CloseTheGap

Donations to United Way are investments in the future of the community we all call home. I believe in the United Way and I hope you will to.
