Team Marine Leading United Way Campaign

"We want to maintain the history of success in fundraising, community awareness and solving community problems that United Way of Indian River County has sustained over the years.”explained Bill Penny, President and CEO of Marine Bank and Trust.

The local United Way recruits Co-Chairs to lead a host of campaign volunteers studying past campaigns, preparing strategies, and doing the groundwork needed to raise critical funds for human services in Indian River County. “We’ve raised around $3 million the last few years and though we are extremely careful with those funds, it doesn’t take long to spend them on community needs,” said Kint.

Penney is a 39 year career banker with 33 years as a Vero Resident, 13 years at Marine Bank & Trust, 7 of those as president. All Marine Bank employees will participate in some way but the lead team includes Penney, Mary Cone, Georgia Irish and Kim Prado.

Mary Cone is Vice President of Residential/Consumer Lending and has been with the bank since June, 1997. She is active in the community serving on the Treasure Coast Builders Association, the Indian River County Chamber of Commerce Ambassador Committee, the Indian River County Lending Consortium, and the Board of Realtors Affiliate Committee.

Georgia Irish has been in banking for over 30 years, with Marine Bank for 10+ years as Vice President and Bank Manager and now VP of Client Services and Business Development. Irish has been very dedicated to helping and working in the community.  Originally from Erie, PA, she moved to Sebastian, FL in 04. She and her husband of 38 years, have a son and 2 grandchildren.
Kim Prado moved to Sebastian with her family in 2007. A Marine employee for almost 4 years, she is currently the Board Chair for Youth Guidance and the Secretary and Concession/Volunteer Chair for the air show.

“Campaign Co-Chairs make a huge commitment when they agree to serve their community in this way,” explained Susan Adams, United Way Board Chair. “These folks began work in June and have continued to make account calls, recruit volunteers and meet with United Way staff throughout the summer. United Way accomplishes a lot with a little and that’s thanks to the philanthropic spirit of this community. Team Marine leads by example and inspires all of us.”

The United Way accepts donations year round but the active campaign begins on Day of Caring, October 14, 2017, and runs through the 3rd week of March, 2018.
